PARK ZONE 3

BURGAS, BULGARIA

PARK ZONE 3 is a transformative project located in the historically rich heart of Burgas, just one kilometer from the eastern coastline. Currently an abandoned “the hole” that detracts from the city’s visual appeal and contributes to the urban heat island effect, the site is a vital pedestrian link adjacent to Aleksandrovska Street and Troykata Square. The design vision transforms this void into a contemporary, multi-layered green heart. By preserving the site’s sunken form, architecture and nature emerge organically from within, creating a multidimensional park where visitors experience intimate connections with trees at varying elevations. The building mass is strategically placed to channel sea breezes and extend activity toward Troykata Square and Baba Ganka Square. Stepped volumes create cascading green terraces, while an elevated bridge links the cultural and administrative zones. The park harmonizes space, users, and trees—using vegetation as an emotional and ecological bond. Sustainability is fundamental, achieved through climate-adaptive design, passive energy strategies, recycled local materials, universal accessibility, and the revitalization of cultural heritage via landscape storytelling and flexible performance spaces. Ultimately, PARK ZONE 3 establishes a dialogue between past and present, creating a forward-looking urban sanctuary that activates the entire surrounding area.
